Update on Messi

Yesterday we were having reports that Messi wants to renegotiate his contract with FC Barcelona. But today according to MD , Messi's father has denied that report.

Leo Messi wants to renegotiate his contract with Barca, but WHY?

It seems that Messi wants to renegotiate his contract even though he had a contract upgradation back in February. The arrival of Neymar and his recent problems with the Spanish Treasury could be behind this unexpected movement.

Jorge Messi, Leo's father and manager, has traveled to Barcelona with the intention of meeting with Sandro Rosell to try to renegotiate the contract of his son, says Jordi Basté in the newspaper "The 9 Esportiu". According to the journalist, George and Leo believe that Messi is not the best paid player and wants to ask for an upgrade.

Although The new contract already provides a significant improvement in salary and maintains its clause of 250 million euros. According Basté, the arrival of Neymar could have changed the wage scale and Messi wants to be recognized for what it is: the best player in the world.

The recent problems with the IRS  also could be the main motive behind this movement. Messi's lawyers are trying to avoid trial for alleged tax fraud and, although there seems to be agreement with the prosecution, this does not prevent an initial appearance of the player and his father on September 17 at the courthouse in Gava.

Rosell : "Enemies of the club think Messi & Neymar won't work together."

FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell in a recent speech has talked about Neymar, Messi and the possibility of a last  transfer during the congress of official supporters clubs.

He was very optimistic in his speech about starting the new season. "You know the enemies of the club will try to destabilize  us with all their might. They think Neymar and messi can't work together. However, you will see, next year when we will meet again that we both will be satisfied with their performances."

On the matter of signing a central defender, Rosell said,  “We continue to try to strengthen the squad. When we sign a player all conditions should be fine. Sometimes we can’t close a deal because of certain things and therefore we have to look for someone else. Our aim is to sign someone before August 31.”

Interview of Xavi

Xavi Hernández has had a lot of changes to face up to since returning from his holiday, and spoke about them at his Wednesday lunchtime press conference. He described Tito Vilanova’s resignation as “one of the worst pieces of news of my career. It was very sad.”
Since Monday, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has been in charge of the first team. “Things have changed and now we need to adapt to the new coach”, he observed. “He’s a serious person, hard-working and has a dynamic approach, with some tactical changes … But we are as eager as ever, and we’ll try to adapt to him as he will to us”.
Promising start
Despite the difficult circumstances, Xavi doesn’t sense any change in the famous Barça mentality. “The team is working hard, and we’re keen to continue making history”, he said. “The mood is a good one. Tata Martino is able to get his winning spirit across.”
Still on the new coach, he added “he’s a humble, hard-working person, and he can adapt to anyone. He likes to check that we agree on everything.” As for what he believes the Argentinian’s priority should be, the midfielder suggested that “we need to get back the intensity we started to lose unknowingly towards the end of last season.”
Neymar to make difference
Another change is the presence of a new world superstar in the squad. Xavi was asked to say a few words about Neymar, and responded that “he’s the kind of player who’s destined to make a difference. He can score and can upset the balance of games … He has to be himself, to show character and to do for us what he did in Brazil and for his national team.”
Meanwhile, Thiago Alcántara has departed. Xavi wishes his former team-mate luck at Bayern. "We’ll soon see whether he made a mistake or not. He’s an extraordinarily talented player who’ll do well wherever he goes. We’ve lost one of our future stars” he said, before going in to comment on the rumours about Cesc’s future at Barça: “He seems relaxed enough to me” said Xavi. “He’s working with the team and looks motivated, so there’s nothing else to be said on the matter.”
Ten quotes :
1. “I wasn’t here, but Tito Vilanova encouraged us to do the best we can. I hope he gets better soon”.
2. “There’s a positive mood. Tata Martino is transmitting his winning spirit”.
3. “Martino has told us to regain our intensity, to work on bringing the ball out, to improve pressure on the opposition’s half ... concepts we have unknowingly been losing”.
4. “We are as eager as ever, we’ll adapt to him as he will to us”.
5. “The team is working hard and keen to carry on making history”.
6. “Good footballers can always adapt. Messi and Neymar will benefit each other”.
7. “Cesc looks relaxed, he’s very motivated about working with the group and there’s nothing else to say on the matter”.
8. “Sergi Roberto can get forward, he doesn’t give the ball away and works hard on his defending. His fitness is extraordinary”.
9. "I am a big Barça fan and always want what’s best for the Club. I am sorry to see situations like the one surrounding the comments made by Guardiola and Tito, but they’re inevitable”.
10. "I think Madrid have signed well. They’ll be as competitive as ever".

Open letter from Tito Vilanova

"Thank you Barça, thank you everyone
After five marvellous years forming part of a team that has made what any manager dreams of come true, the time has come to face a change in my professional career in order to put my strength and energy into continuing the process of the illness that was diagnosed a year and a half ago.
The treatments that I am going to have to undergo from now on does not make it recommendable, in the doctors’ opinion, for me to dedicate one hundred per cent of my effort to being the first team manager of a team as demanding as FC Barcelona, but I shall be staying close by and will be continuing to work for the Club that I love so much in other jobs in the sports area.
It is not easy to leave such a special group of people, the players, my fellow staff and friends with whom I have shared so many unforgettable experiences. I am eternally grateful for everything that they have given and shown to me. The human and footballing qualities of this team can overcome any obstacle and I am convinced that they will be able to use that capacity to face the new sporting challenges of a season that everybody has such high hopes for.
I would also like to especially thank the president, the whole of the Board of Directors, and the director of sport Andoni Zubizarreta for all the trust they have put into me and especially for their unconditional support, both sporting and personal. Just as important to me has been the human and medical support of Doctor Ramon Canal and his team, who have been by my side. I know that I am not playing this match alone, but I form part of a Club that will help me get through this long process, as it has done until now.
To you, the Barça members and supporters, I also want to say thank you for all the shows of support and affection that you have sent me, not just now but all these last months. I can tell you that that I feel calm and strong, and I am facing this new stage of the process in the full confidence that it will all go well.
Thank you very much too to all the football fans, fellow professionals, clubs, athletes and people that I do and do not know for all the messages of support that have brought so much comfort to me and my family.
These are difficult times for my loved ones and that’s why I am asking for respect and understanding from the media. Now that I am no longer Barça manager, I hope to enjoy the peace and privacy that both me and my family need at a time like this.
I couldn’t finish this letter without wishing lots of luck and every success to the new manager of the best team in the world.
Thank you everybody.
Tito Vilanova"

Thank you Eric Abidal

This blog would be incomplete without this guy, Eric Abidal. Over the past few years he has been turned into a subject of discussion for every sports journalist and as well as an internet phenomenon. Not only because of what he has achieved in his prolonged football career but as well as in his personal life which includes his battle against cancer and winning it over, like a true champion that he is,twice. Today he is a global icon, his image is an inspiration for many cancer patients and anyone else who intends to fight for something in this challenging game of life.

On may 30th, 2013 he had to leave F.C Barcelona. Not that he wanted to, but he had to. He wanted to continue as a player in F.C Barcelona and retire at the club. But it didn't seem right to the Rosell board for whatsoever reasons they had in their minds. Below is the video link of his last press conference as a BARCA player :

The pictures below show various standpoints of the board of Rosell regarding the matter of Abidal

The above article is from Sport.es. Date : 20.12.2012. The underlined sentence on the above picture is a statement given by Barcelona vice-President Josep Maria Bartomeu. In an interview to rac1 he confirms that, "Abidal's contract renewal is all ready, and he will put ink to paper once he has played his first game again."

The above article is from official Barcelona website. Date: 18.12.2012 . The underlined above sentences are from Toni Freixa, the spokesman of the Rosell board. Tony Freixa talks about Eric Abidal, " The Club’s intention is Abidal’s intention. The player has made an extraordinary effort, and he is happy to have done so because he can live a satisfactory life again. His continuity will depend on what he himself decides, and Barça will always be there at his side”.

That was 2012. And now within one year on 30th May 2013, Rosell puts an end to the topic of Abidal.

I, as a Cule, apologize to you Eric. You deserved more.
Best wishes to you.

Against Pep Guardiola - Barcelona columnists - united and determind

1) Guardiola took a year off. 2012-13. No one from Barcelona sports media or from Board of Rosell attacked him during that year.

2) How is it possible that both Barcelona sports media and its columnists have started attacking him all of a sudden ? That too in these last three months?

3) How is it possible that in these last 3 months there were several op-eds written solely to attack Guardiola? And not previous year. Why now?

4) Attacking Guardiola through print media did not start after Pep's recent press conference. It started long before pep's  press conference and thiago saga.

5) The creation of a negative image of Guardiola through print media is a huge success. No matter whoever is behind it , they knew what they are doing.

6) Two year back he was hailed for everything. For his dedication and devotion to his beloved club FC Barcelona. Now the same Barcelona media calls him selfish and a hypocrite because of his connections and friendships with Cruyff and Laporta. That's why Guardiola lashed out and said , "The only thing I asked Rosell was to leave me in peace and they have not left me in peace even from 6,000 kilometres away, they have not done it, they have not lived up to their word."

7) Rosell knows very well Laporta has the support of Guardiola and Cruyff. Either Laporta coming back to fight for elections or Guardiola himself, this way or another, one thing is for sure both Laporta are Guardiola are on the same side of the coin. Rosell knows it. As long as he is in the power, this is his best time to weaken the opposition. But Rosell can't take a central roll. That will be dirty. Here again I will quote Guardiola, "If any of the things I've said is not true, come out and rebut it. But it has to be them (Rosell and his board), not intermediaries or Barcelona messengers, them."  The Barcelona messengers i.e MD & SPORT. All serving a campaign orchestrated by powerful Barcelona board to tarnish the reputation of Pep Guardiola. So far they have succeeded perfectly.
